Canadian Board of Trustees

Young people all over the world have caught the Starfish vision and Starfish Canada was incorporated in 2004 and received charitable registration in early 2005.  Since then, volunteers across the country have been instrumental in getting this local chapter of the charity off the ground.

Starfish Canada is privileged to count on the support of a number of distinguished Canadians, who act as Patrons and Advisers:  The Hon. Allan Blakeney, The Hon. Margaret McCain, The Hon. Bob Rae, Dr John Evans, Norman Webster, Susan Scace and Kirby Chown.

Laura Jenner acts as Chair and CEO of Starfish Canada. Other members of the Board of Directors include:

Shayne Tyron is the Director of Customer Relations for Hudson's Bay Company department stores, the Bay and Lord & Taylor.  He has held numerous roles with Hudson's Bay, including managing the company's Olympic Sponsorship Program for the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games and leading corporate social responsibility programs.  Prior to joining Hudson's Bay Company, Shayne was Associate Director of External Relations at the University of British Columbia where he managed the development of community -university partnerships and related educational programs.

Janice Campbell holds a BSc in Kinesiology from the University of Waterloo as well as an MSc in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Toronto. She currently works as the Clinic Manager at Glycemic Index Laboratories where she is responsible for clinical trials on metabolic responses to foods and ingredients. After graduating from U of T, Janice's interest in nutrition within developing countries led her to Zambia where she volunteered with the NGO EduSport teaching children about HIV and healthy eating as well as at the University Teaching Hospital (Lusaka) in the Pediatric Malnutrition Ward working with mothers, nurses, and doctors on helping infants and babies gain strength and health through nutritional therapies. The impact of AIDS on the individual, family, and community in both Zambia and South Africa, as well as Namibia, Botswana, and Zimbabwe (where she later traveled) prompted Janice to reach out to Starfish Greathearts Foundation where she has been a volunteer for the Care For a Taste event for the past two years.

Katherine P. Melville is responsible for the management of the Farris LLP library. She has gained significant voluntary and fundraising experience at a number of organisations and has volunteered on the Starfish Events Planning Committee since 2013.
