Starfish Given a World Cup
Legacy
Football fun and fundraising was the overall result of The
Rustenberg Wines Challenge Cup which took place in Idas Valley in
Stellenbosch on the 28th June.
The five-a-side charity football tournament was organised by Chris
Gibson (aged 28) and Colin Perry (aged 30) from Edinburgh, having
seen this as a great opportunity to raise some money for Starfish.
"With this tournament fundraiser, we have the chance to make a real
difference," says Chris. And they did, as the video shows,
four Starfish supported projects Hermanus Rainbow
Trust, Missio Dei, Wola Nani and Etafeni had teams playing
in the fun soccer tournament.
Starfish children have an
opportunity of a lifetime!
It all started when Chris and Colin found themselves with a surplus
of World Cup match tickets for their group holiday. Rather than
reselling them the boys elected to give them away to local township
kids who would never otherwise have had the opportunity to witness
such a feast of football - fourteen supervised kids savoured the
amazing experience. Chris and Colin partnered with Starfish as we
could certainly facilitate the generous offering of donated World
Cup tickets!

tournament journey.

Early signs say that the lads are well on their way to raising the
pledged £10,000. So please if the film is evidence enough of
what a difference the support that Starfish gives to
the children in the film above, go to the event fundraising
pages...

Starfish are thrilled with the effort, dedication and overall
determination that Chris and Colin have shown throughout the last
months. We want to thank the lads and their
team of friends, family, contacts and sponors for truly making
a difference. Thank you.
