When Starfish-supported children were asked this question the overwhelming response was, 'Can you bring my mother back?'
Unfortunately, Starfish can't make this wish come true. However, we can help secure their futures by equipping their caregivers to be the best possible surrogate mothers they can be.
Starfish supports caregivers through a Mentoring and Training programme, supporting some of their existing activities (e.g. feeding schemes) and by paying for a portion of their organisational expenses, stipends and travel costs. This range of support equips the caregivers to ensure that the child's basic needs are met, for example:
* educational support - facilitating access to schooling and the provision of homework support,
* nutritional support - via monthly food parcels or feeding schemes
* social support - home visits, counselling and access to government grants to cover the running costs of the home
For as little as R300 per month you can ensure that one child receives the best possible care from their caregiver.
