Starfish was founded by a group of young friends in a London coffee
shop in 2001. The following year, a number of these
individuals returned to South Africa and officially launched
Starfish in its home country on Freedom Day 2002. The charity
has been actively inspiring and mobilising individuals in various
fields of influence ever since.
In the last five years, thousands of people across the globe have
caught the Starfish vision, contributing to the community-based
care that we're providing for 36,036 children in South Africa
(as of end of third quarter 2008).
Starfish is registered as a Section 21 company in South Africa (no.
2003/002865/08), as a non-profit organisation (039-447-NPO) and as
a public benefit organisation in terms of section 18A of the Income
Tax Act No. 930008639.
