Starfish was founded by a group of young friends in a London coffee
shop in 2001. Starfish Greathearts Foundation
USA was established in 2003 by a group of South Africans
living in Austin, TX. They were inspired to raise awareness
and funds within the States on behalf of the millions of children
orphaned in their home country of South Africa every day.
Through the hard work of dedicated volunteers and the pro
bono support of Allen & Overy in New York,
Starfish USA received its independent charitable 501(c)3
status in the United States in 2005.
In the last five years, thousands of people across the globe have
caught the Starfish vision, contributing to the community-based
care that we're providing for over 34,000 children in South
Africa.
