Support from charitable trusts, foundations and development
agencies constitutes an important part of maintaining the work of
Starfish and enabling us to deliver innovative and pioneering
services to children orphaned by HIV/AIDS.
For this reason, Starfish relies very much on the kindness of
trusts, foundations and development agencies around the
world. Much of the expansion of the charity's work in South
Africa has only been possible through the support of the
President's Emergency Plan For AIDS Relief, which
has donated R27 620 000 to date.
The Coca-Cola Africa Foundation donated over R1.2 million to
Starfish in 2003 for key projects in KwaZulu-Natal, whilst more
recently The Makro Foundation donated R240,000 towards children's
educational needs in the Thandanani Programme.
In 2006, The Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Settlement gave a
generous grant of £25,000 and the Isle of Man Government Overseas
Aid Committee donated £5,000 towards a new mentoring and training
programme in the Eastern Cape Province. This pilot
programme will help us scale up our response to the HIV/AIDS crisis
and it is our intention to roll these out nationwide.
Grateful thanks and appreciation go to all the charitable trusts,
foundations and development agencies that have so kindly and
generously supported the work of Starfish Greathearts Foundation
worldwide.
